Hi, I’m Sina! A German girl, currently living in Barcelona, Spain. And this blog is a little window into the moments when I feel most alive: when I’m travelling.

At home, life often feels… slower. Like many people, I sometimes struggle to find the energy to be social, go out, work out, or even do much after work. Even living in sunny Spain hasn’t magically changed that. My day-to-day life can feel routine, sometimes even a little boring or lonely.

But something strange happens when I travel.

Suddenly I have energy again. I wake up early, explore new streets for hours, talk to strangers, try unfamiliar food, and stay curious about everything around me. It feels like my brain switches into a different mode — one where everything is exciting again.

That feeling is what Energy Elsewhere is about.

Where it all started

My travel story really began when I was 18. After graduating from high school in Germany, I moved to California to work as an au pair.

What was supposed to be a one-year adventure turned into one and a half years of exploring the United States and other countries with new friends and my host family. It was the first time I realised how big and diverse the world really is.

And more importantly: I realised that I didn’t want to stop travelling.

When I returned to Germany, I started university — but I also started planning every possible trip. I worked a lot, saved money, and used every weekend or semester break to explore somewhere new.

A thesis in Japan

During my studies, I had the opportunity to write my bachelor thesis in pharmaceutical chemistry at Bayer in Koka, Japan. Living and working there for that time gave me another completely different perspective on the world and strengthened my love for discovering new places and cultures.

Moving abroad again

After graduating, I made another decision that surprised some people around me: instead of looking for my first job in Germany, I decided to move abroad again.

This time to Barcelona, Spain.

For the past three years I’ve been living and working here. The sunshine, the sea, and the lifestyle are definitely upgrades compared to German winters — but the real excitement still happens when I pack my backpack and go somewhere new.

A small goal: the whole world

I try to visit at least five new countries every year. Not because I want to rush through destinations, but because I’m genuinely curious about the world.

My long-term dream?

To visit every country in the world.

It might take decades, but that’s part of the adventure.

Why this blog exists

I started this blog to share the places, stories, and little discoveries along the way.

Here you’ll find things like:

  • travel stories from short trips and longer adventures

  • practical tips from places I’ve explored

  • beautiful spots worth adding to your list

  • and honest reflections about travelling and life in between trips

If even one post makes someone think “Maybe I should book that trip”, then this blog has done its job.

Because sometimes the best energy really is elsewhere.

Thanks for being here and following along on this journey.
